The Cleveland POPS Orchestra's annual Spring Soiree benefit patterned after the Prohibition Era

"Flashback to the Speakeasy" to take place on Friday, May 1, 2009

April 1, 2009 -- Cleveland, Ohio – Cleveland POPS invites patrons and fans of the orchestra to attend what is described as an incredibly intriguing, deliciously forbidden evening inside a 1920's speakeasy. The venue in this case is actually the ballroom of Executive Caterers at Landerhaven. Executive Caterers, known for its posh appointments and tempting cuisine, will be the stage of a Prohibition style party, into which no one enters unless "sent by Joe." or in this case by Carl (Carl Topilow, conductor of the Cleveland POPS Orchestra) to be precise.

The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres, an open bar and a treasure auction. The dinner begins at 7:30 p.m., with attendees being served at numerous food stations. Some outrageously staged surprises will ensue, followed by dancing to the music of Carl Topilow and his "Charismatic Combo," a group of jazzy fellows curiously resembling members of the POPS orchestra. The combo will entertain and provide dance music of the Dixieland and Red Hot Jazz varieties

How does one dress for a Speakeasy experience? According to the stylish invitation, one can "dress dapper to flapper, bow ties to boas, fedoras to straw hats, cloche hats and bobbed hair, snobby and knobby, down-and-out and derelict. In other words, the choice is up to you. For certain, many an attic and back closet will be opened and ransacked  as attendees find appropriate attire befitting the Cotton Club-like atmosphere.

Reservations for "Flashback to the Speakeasy" are $125 per person and are required. To reserve, call The Cleveland POPS office at 216 765-7677
