February 10, 2006CLEVELAND, OH16-year-old pianist Jerry Lang,
II will perform with the Cleveland POPS Orchestra on March 10, 2006, at Severance
Hall. The performance will take place during Cleveland POPS "Craig Schulman
On Broadway" concert. The teenager will play works by George Gershwin.
Jerry
Lang, II is no stranger to winning awards. The Brunswick, Ohio youth started
Suzuki piano lessons at age 3 at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. He
won his first piano competition at age 5. At age 7, he declared his lifetime
ambition to become a concert pianist and one day perform at Carnegie Hall before
the age of 14. In 2002, Jerry achieved his goal when he placed first in The
World Piano Competition. At this competition, Jerry made history. He became
the first and only young artist in 46 years to be asked to open for the Artist
Competition and Gala. This competition allowed him to perform at Carnegie Hall
before the age of 14. Lang currently studies with Ella Karasik at The Cleveland
Music School Settlement. In addition to his piano accomplishments, Jerry is
an accomplished music composer and has been awarded several scholarships for
his compositions.
Jerry Lang, II won his 28th piano contest in November,
2005, when he became the grand prize winner of the Cleveland POPS Orchestra's
seventh annual Jean L. Petitt Memorial Music Scholarship
Competition. The recent
competition was the Fifth Annual for the Jean L. Petitt Memorial Music Scholarship.
The scholarship program's mission is to find and encourage prodigiously
talented performing artists between the ages of fourteen and eighteen who
reside and study in Northeast Ohio.
