Beloved tenor stars in Cleveland POPS Orchestra's 7th Annual Salute to Our Armed Forces

Cleveland, Ohio—May 4, 2007— Carl Topilow will conduct The Cleveland Pops Orchestra in its seventh annual "Salute to Our Armed Forces," assisted by the inspirational singing of tenor Daniel Rodriguez. The concert will take place at Severance Hall in Cleveland at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2007.

Mr. Rodriguez is the admired "singing policeman," the New York City cop who helped bring the country an uplifting spirit of promise and hope with his stirring rendition of "God Bless America" after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.  He will lend his warm, full-bodied singing to  songs of courage, valor and American values, including "The House I Live In," "Into the Fire," "America the Beautiful," "The Prayer," "You'll Never Walk Alone," "Bring Him Home" and more. The orchestral portions of the program will include "Light Calvary Overture" by Franz von Suppé, selections from Richard Rodgers epic "Victory at Sea," John Philip Sousa marches, the rarely heard "National Guard March" and the "Armed Forces Medley." Memories of World War II will be recalled in a medley of Glenn Miller songs, arranged by Cleveland POPS' talented arranger Paul Ferguson.

The military-themed concert will also spotlight violinist Caroline Goulding. The performance marks the POPS debut of the 14-year-old prodigy who is the current grand prize winner of the orchestra's Jean L. Petitt Memorial Music Scholarship competition. Ms. Goulding, who has appeared on numerous national television shows including Martha Stewart, PBS and the Today Show, will perform "Yankee Doodle Variations by  the 19th century composer Henri Vieuxtemps.A joint military color guard, comprised of members of the major military branches will participate in the military concert.
