Go back with Cleveland POPS to the days when swing was king

Once upon a time, there were hundreds of orchestras—called Big Bands or Swing Bands—that toured the U.S., playing music that was jazzy and swingy, sometimes sophisticated, always with a pleasant beat and definitely the sounds that millions of people loved to dance to. The era was the '30s and '40s, and on into the World War II years. Hundreds of bands with hundreds of musical styles, a few of which made it big in a grand way. Bands like Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James and Gene Krupa and many, many more.

On Friday night, October 30th at 8:00 pm, The Cleveland POPS Orchestra is going to recreate the era of the Big Bands right in Severance Hall. 2009 is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Benny Goodman, a good reason to celebrate.

Go to the concerts and ticketing page of this website and you will be able to purchase tickets to "When Swing was King." Boogie on down to Severance Hall and find out why Cleveland POPS is the greatest swing band of this or any era. Hear the stylish vocals of Barbara Knight and enjoy the swing dancing of Bobby and Brooke Wesner.
