]]> Lieutenant Colonel Dwayne Milburn (ret.) reflects on how not seeing people who looked like him holding high profile orchestra positions helped shape his career.  His distinguished army career has included conducting positions with bands in Washington, DC, Germany, Atlanta, and Virginia.  He is also a published composer of wind ensemble, choral, and chamber music.

In honor of Black History Month, we dedicate this series of interviews to the talented African American composers who added so much to American culture and the gifted African American artists whose artistry has graced stages throughout the country and indeed the world.
