A Word from Our Conductor
Conductor and Music Director
The Cleveland Pops is once again excited to be bringing to its enthusiastic audience the best in symphonic pops! We are proud to be entering our 22nd season, and would like to thank all our supporters – our musicians, board, staff, and audience – for their devotion and encouragement in keeping alive the music that you love and cherish. We are excited to celebrating some icons of American music this season. Jerry Herman’s contribution to American Musical Theater can be found in such wonderful shows as Hello Dolly, La Gage Au Folles, Mame, Milk and Honey, and Mack and Mabel. The 100th anniversary of the birth of Leonard Bernstein will be celebrated with his great music, along with the legendary choreographer Jerome Robbins. Four spectacular male singers form a group called Under the Streetlamp, and they will regale us with popular songs of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Trumpeter and singer Byron Stripling is truly one of the great entertainers and musicians of our generation. Our Pops traditions continue with our Holiday concert, New Year’s Eve celebration, and salute to the Armed Forces. In addition to our subscription series, Holiday concert and New Year's Eve program, the Cleveland Pops continues to be active in Northeast Ohio. This past summer, we performed in 5 different outdoor venues, and are thrilled to be the orchestra for the concert at the Quicken Loans Arena on December 1st featuring the renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. For me personally, it is always a thrill to stand in front of this great ensemble, whether as conductor or solo clarinetist. Thank you for attending our concerts, and for your continued support!
