The Cleveland POPS Orchestra announces changes in the 2007 Ninth annual Jean L. Petitt Memorial Music Scholarship Competition

The Cleveland POPS Orchestra has changed the date, time, location and age requirements of its 2007 ninth annual competition for the Jean L. Petitt Memorial Music Scholarship Competition. The competition will now take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday December 2, 2007 in room 177 of the East Education Center of Cuyahoga Community College's Eastern Campus (click here for directions). Specific directions to the audition room are listed below.

The competition is now open to all children up to age 18. Entry is open to musicians, vocalists and dancers. Contestants must be prepared to perform a full-length piece from memory. Selections may be drawn from standard pops music repertoire, including songs, dances or instrumental solos found in Broadway musicals, big band arrangements, jazz or light classics.

• Applicants must be current residents and attend school in the counties of Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Portage, Summit, Medina or Lorain.
• Performance styles may include music from musical theater, light classics, popular standards, jazz, big band and swing.
• The winner will perform with The Cleveland Pops Orchestra at Severance Hall at one of Cleveland Pops' regularly scheduled concerts (as determined by conductor Carl Topilow).
• The winner will also receive a scholarship cash award of $500.
• Applications must be received at the Cleveland Pops Orchestra no later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 23, 2007.

To locate Room 177 in the East Education Center, follow these directions (click here for campus map).

1. Turn into the Eastern Campus of Cuyahoga Community College from Harvard Road
2. The East Education Center is the first building on the left, turn into the first drive on the left to enter the parking lot
3. Enter the building from the main entrance in the front and turn left
4. Walk along the left side of the building to the end of the hallway. Once at the end, Room 177 is on your left.

There is a sign outside the door reading " Classical Piano Performance Academy.

You will need two quarters to exit the parking lot.
